Exodus 4:18-20

Happy Monday, everyone! :D

Exodus 4:18-20
So Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” And Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.” Now the LORD said to Moses in Midian, “Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.” Then Moses took his wife and his sons and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

If anyone could have been justified in taking off without the blessing of an authority, it would have been Moses. He'd just gotten a direct, spoken command from God through a burning bush! Yet Moses was careful to stay under authority by getting the blessing of Jethro, his father-in-law and employer, before leaving. He had tried doing things outside of proper authority before, when he killed the Egyptian, and it hadn’t turned out very well. However, when we stay under the blessing of the authorities God has placed over us, there is an added measure of God’s protection, guidance, and blessing.

Father, help me to stay under the authorities You have placed in my life, honoring them and trusting You to work through them to guide and protect me.

May the Lord bless you richly as you yield to His authority in your life!
