Romans 6:4-5

Good morning! :)

Romans 6:4-5
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection"

Newness of life sounds pretty cool. Being in the likeness of Christ's resurrection is something we all want. But I think that too often we overlook the first part of all this: the "baptism into death" and the "likeness of His death" part. Life sounds awesome; death, not so much. Yet how can we have one without the other? Unless we die with Christ, we will never experience the glory of resurrection with Christ! Oswald Chambers hit the nail on the head when he said, "Sanctification means being made one with Jesus so that the disposition that ruled Him will rule us. It will cost everything that is not of God in us." That is "death"--the death of everything that is not of God in us. As those things that are not of God in our lives die, we are able to walk in "newness of life". And note that this newness of life is brought about by "the glory of the Father"; so shouldn't it be lived for the same glory?

Father, help me to walk in newness of life for Your glory!

May the Lord richly bless you as you walk in newness of life for His glory!
